FBI Director Kash Patel publicly denied rumors of internal discord within the Trump administration concerning the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. This statement came just hours before President Donald Trump defended Attorney General Pam Bondi against backlash related to the Epstein investigation.
On March 3, 2024, the FBI and the Department of Justice released a memo that dismissed speculation about an alleged Epstein client list. The document clarified that no incriminating tell-all exists, aiming to quell rising conspiracy theories. Among the concerns was a one-minute gap in surveillance footage from Epstein’s cell, which has fueled ongoing speculation since his death by suicide in jail in 2019.
During a broadcast on Fox News, it was reported that Deputy Director Dan Bongino had considered resigning if Bondi remained in her position overseeing the Department of Justice. While unconfirmed reports suggested that Patel might also step down, he quickly refuted these claims via social media. Patel emphasized that these “conspiracy theories” are unfounded, stating, “It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States @realDonaldTrump — and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me.”
Following Patel’s comments, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the reactions of some supporters, who had criticized Bondi’s performance. On his platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB.” He urged unity among his supporters, reiterating, “We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening.”
Trump further characterized Epstein as a figure whose story seems to persist, shifting focus to the previous administration, saying, “They created the Epstein Files, just like they created the FAKE Hillary Clinton/Christopher Steele Dossier.” He questioned why the information had not been utilized against the current administration if it held damaging content.
Reports indicate that tensions escalated during a White House meeting, where Bongino allegedly confronted Bondi over perceived transparency issues regarding the Epstein investigation. Insiders noted that Bongino raised his voice and left the meeting, weighing his future within the administration. Despite the rising tensions, sources close to Bondi claimed she has “no intention of stepping down” and that she and Patel maintain constant communication.
In response to the escalating situation, White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields reaffirmed that the law-and-order team is functioning effectively. Fields stated, “Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless and distracts from the real progress being made.” He highlighted the administration’s commitment to public safety and justice.
The FBI has yet to provide an official comment on the matter. Reports from Fox News highlighted that the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Epstein continues to provoke strong reactions, both politically and socially. As the investigation develops, the dynamics within the Trump administration regarding the Epstein files remain a focal point of interest.
