Two daycare administrators at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, have been placed on administrative leave following serious allegations of child sex abuse against a former employee. On January 23, 2023, 24-year-old Cameron White was arrested and charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old, specifically for fondling.
The allegations came to light when officials from the Trinity United Methodist Church Child Development Center reported the situation to the Madison County Department of Human Resources. This notification initiated an investigation into the inappropriate contact between White and a child under the center’s care.
In a letter sent to parents, Head Pastor Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser outlined the church’s response to these grave concerns. He stated that the Child Development Center Director, Sheryl Raddin, and Associate Director Megan Tarin were placed on leave to allow for a thorough review of protocols and procedures.
Rev. Dr. Cowser emphasized that this decision does not imply guilt but is a necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of the children involved. During this period, oversight of the Child Development Center will be managed by Executive Pastor Rev. Carrie Jones and Classroom Success Coordinator Heather Atkinson. They are committed to maintaining stability and clear communication with families while the investigation proceeds.
In the letter, Rev. Dr. Cowser expressed his heartfelt concern for the affected families, stating, “Our hearts are breaking alongside yours, and we remain committed to walking through this season with care, honesty, and compassion.” He assured parents that the church remains devoted to the well-being of their children and is actively praying for the community during this difficult time.
Additionally, attorney Bart Siniard of Siniard Law, LLC, has announced plans to file a lawsuit against White, the Trinity Child Development Center, and the church itself. This legal action will address claims of abuse and negligence regarding the care provided to the children and victims involved.
As the investigation unfolds, both the church and the community are left grappling with the implications of these serious allegations. The safety and welfare of children remain the top priority as additional details emerge.
