A professor from the University of California, Berkeley, was shot and killed outside Athens, Greece, on July 4, 2023. Przemyslaw Jeziorski, who had been in the country to attend a child custody hearing, was gunned down near a residence where his ex-wife and two children live. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and as of now, no arrests have been made.
Jeziorski’s family has expressed profound grief over his death. In a post on WhyDonate, a European crowdfunding platform, his brother, Lukasz Jeziorski, emphasized the family’s heartbreak and their commitment to seeking justice. He described his brother as “a loving father to two young children and a beloved professor” at the Haas School of Business in Berkeley. Lukasz noted that Przemyslaw was a prominent scholar in marketing science, industrial organization, and data analytics, who was passionate about teaching.
In a statement, Jennifer Chatman, the Dean of Berkeley Haas, expressed sorrow at the tragic loss. “We are heartbroken by news of the tragic and sudden death of Professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a beloved member of our marketing faculty and Haas community,” she said. Chatman added that while authorities investigate the incident, the university’s focus is on supporting their community during this challenging time.
Jeziorski’s death comes shortly after the passing of his father, further compounding the family’s grief. The professor had dedicated eight years to Berkeley’s Haas School, where he was known not only for his academic contributions but also for his engaging teaching style and mentorship.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and local authorities have yet to provide additional details about potential suspects or motives. The international community, particularly those connected to the academic world, mourns the loss of a dedicated educator and family man, as calls for justice continue to grow.
