The talent and entertainment company UTA has signed British comedian Simon Brodkin, recognizing him as “one of the U.K.’s most exciting stand-up comedians.” Brodkin, known for his distinctive characters and comedic pranks, is expected to enhance his international reach through this partnership.
Brodkin gained fame for portraying outrageous characters, particularly the brash “comedy legend” Lee Nelson and the fictional soccer star Jason Bent. His career has included notable public stunts, such as pranks involving high-profile figures like Donald Trump, Kanye West, and former FIFA president Sepp Blatter. His recent tour, “Screwed Up,” spanned 170 dates and was extended four times due to overwhelming ticket demand, including a performance at the prestigious Royal Variety Performance in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Brodkin also made headlines with a digital special of “Screwed Up” released on YouTube, which quickly became the most viewed U.K. special on the platform. His stand-up clips routinely attract millions of views, showcasing his growing influence in both live and digital comedy.
Strategic Partnership Aims for Global Expansion
“We’re very excited to work with Simon, who is truly in the Premier League of U.K. stand-ups,” said Bjorn Wentlandt, UTA’s London-based comedy touring agent. The agency aims to leverage its extensive comedy touring department, which includes offices in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, and London, to enhance Brodkin’s global touring opportunities, particularly in the U.S.
Brodkin expressed confidence in his new representation, stating, “I wanted elite level representation for my international tours, and with Bjorn and UTA, I have signed with the best in class.” This partnership is intended to accelerate his success worldwide and capitalize on his recent resurgence in the comedy scene.
Notable Pranks and Publicity Stunts
Known as “the world’s most famous blagger,” Brodkin has a history of pulling off elaborate hoaxes that have gained media attention. In June 2016, prior to Trump’s successful presidential campaign, he disrupted the re-opening of the Trump Turnberry golf resort in Scotland by distributing golf balls adorned with red swastikas. In October 2017, he famously interrupted then-U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May during her speech at the Conservative Party conference, presenting her with a mock termination form amid speculation about her leadership.
In addition to these incidents, Brodkin has been known to shower Sepp Blatter with fake dollar bills during a press conference, further solidifying his reputation for audacious comedy. His unique blend of satire and social commentary has resonated with audiences, making him a significant figure in contemporary comedy.
Brodkin’s signing with UTA adds him to a dynamic roster of international comedians, which includes talents such as Celeste Barber, Zakir Khan, and Vir Das. With this new collaboration, Brodkin is poised to further enrich the global comedy landscape, bringing his unique brand of humor to a wider audience.
