Urgent: Man Steals $1,700 in Caviar from Whole Foods in Irvine

UPDATE: A man has stolen approximately $1,700 worth of caviar from a Whole Foods in Irvine, California, and authorities are urgently seeking the public’s help to identify him. The theft took place on December 29, 2023, at around 6:30 p.m. at the Whole Foods Market located on Irvine Center Drive.

According to Irvine Police Department spokesman Kyle Oldoerp, the suspect initially appeared to be shopping normally, selecting various items before executing the theft. He discreetly concealed 12 cans of caviar inside a paper Whole Foods bag he brought with him, then abandoned his shopping basket and exited the store without paying.

The stolen caviar included high-end brands such as Fishwife, featuring its Caviar Duet and Golden White Reserve varieties, priced at approximately $170, $160, and $99 per container. An employee who had recently stocked the shelves noticed the caviar was missing shortly after the theft, prompting a review of surveillance footage that confirmed the suspect’s actions.

Police took to social media to share the unusual nature of the crime, humorously stating, “This is not Jason Statham filming an action scene in a grocery store.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect to contact Detective Drake at [email protected]. The public’s assistance is crucial in resolving this case swiftly, as the theft of high-value items raises concerns about security at local businesses.

This incident highlights a growing trend of retail thefts that significantly impact local economies and community safety. With the holiday season just concluded, police are particularly vigilant about such crimes, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops, and consider sharing this urgent news to help bring the suspect to justice.
