URGENT UPDATE: Scrap Management Industries Inc. (SMI) has just announced its acquisition of Allmetal Recycling, a Kansas-based scrap metal recycling company, effective immediately. This strategic move significantly enhances SMI’s regional footprint, adding Allmetal’s network of 10 locations across Kansas, including the Great Bend facility at 70 SE 16 Road.
This acquisition, revealed on July 11, 2023, ensures that Allmetal will continue to operate under its own name. Owners Clint and Kolby Cornejo will remain in leadership roles, preserving the local presence that has made Allmetal a trusted name in the community. According to SMI, there are no plans to close any yards, confirming that the Great Bend operation and its dedicated team will remain intact.
With this merger, SMI now operates a total of five Automobile Shredders, including two Mega Shredders, across 19 yards throughout Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. This expansion not only increases operational capacity but also improves transportation and container options for customers in the region.
Jerrit Burgess, CEO of Scrap Management Industries, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Allmetal is exactly the kind of company we want to grow with. Both companies are family-built and locally led.” He emphasized the commitment to community engagement and service quality, aiming to provide even greater support to customers.
The Cornejo cousins, who established Allmetal in 2009, have built a reputation for safety and service. They are committed to maintaining their operational approach while leveraging SMI’s resources. “Joining the SMI family allows us to keep doing what we do best for our customers and communities, while creating new opportunities for our employees,” said Kolby Cornejo.
For both industrial partners and walk-in customers, this acquisition translates into enhanced services. The combined entity promises a broader footprint and increased capabilities to handle complex scrap programs across multiple locations.
Founded in 1973, Scrap Management Industries is a well-established recycler of both ferrous and nonferrous metals, known for ethical practices and community involvement. SMI is dedicated to advancing metal recycling technology and environmental stewardship, which resonates with Allmetal’s operational values.
