UPDATE: Authorities have arrested three individuals in connection with a brazen robbery scheme at Bally’s Rhode Island Casino that unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. today. The suspects, all from Massachusetts, are accused of using a coordinated approach to target a male patron, raising urgent concerns about safety for casino visitors during late-night hours.
The incident began when the victim was lured away from the gaming floor by two women, who coaxed him into a nearby hotel room. What started as a casual encounter quickly escalated into a terrifying ordeal. Once inside, a third suspect emerged, brandishing a knife and demanding money. The victim was forced to hand over more than $1,500 in cash before being ordered to leave, threatened not to contact law enforcement.
Following the incident, the victim bravely reported the crime, prompting a swift investigation by local police. Surveillance footage and witness statements led to the arrest of D.S.S., a 28-year-old from Worcester, who was allegedly the armed assailant. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree robbery and carrying a prohibited weapon. The two women involved, N.A.M. (19) from Marlborough and T.T.W. (19) from Boston, are also charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy.
Fortunately, the victim escaped unharmed, but the incident highlights a growing trend of criminal activities targeting casino patrons. Police believe the suspects operated in concert, isolating the victim before stealing his cash. Authorities have warned that criminals often take advantage of the combination of cash, alcohol, and late-night activity to manipulate potential victims into secluded areas.
This alarming event echoes a similar incident in November in Ridgefield, Washington, where a robbery attempt at a casino turned fatal. That case involved drugging a victim, demonstrating how quickly theft attempts can escalate into violence. The Bally’s incident could have ended similarly, especially given the presence of a weapon.
Casinos typically maintain strong relationships with law enforcement, employing surveillance systems and on-site security to deter crime. As the investigation continues, all three suspects are expected to appear in Rhode Island court soon.
Authorities advise patrons to exercise caution, particularly when approached by strangers offering private meetings. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that lurk in late-night settings. Stay alert, and if you see anything suspicious, report it immediately.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to uncover whether additional charges or related incidents may emerge.
