Ubisoft Hit by Major Hack: R6 Siege Servers Shut Down Now

URGENT UPDATE: A significant cybersecurity breach has just struck Ubisoft, forcing the company to shut down Rainbow Six Siege servers as a result of a massive hack. Players initially experienced a chaotic in-game glitch, with accounts flooded with nearly $340 trillion in free credits, raising alarms about a much larger security crisis.

The disruption began earlier today, when players noticed their accounts filled with extraordinary amounts of in-game currency and rare cosmetic items. While some celebrated this unexpected windfall, others faced mysterious account bans and hijacked log messages that mocked Ubisoft’s leadership. This incident indicates potential deep access to the company’s management services, prompting immediate action from Ubisoft.

In response to the situation, Ubisoft has taken the game servers and marketplace offline to conduct a thorough investigation. The company later confirmed it would perform a massive rollback to reverse the unauthorized changes. Fortunately, players have been assured they won’t face bans for using the illegal currency, but the larger implications of this incident are alarming.

According to a report by Vx-Underground, Ubisoft is dealing with a multi-front attack involving up to four different hacker groups. The first group aimed to disrupt gameplay by gifting currency, while others targeted the company’s core infrastructure. One of these groups exploited a flaw in a database to access an internal Git repository, reportedly stealing a vast amount of Ubisoft’s source code dating back to the 1990s. This includes critical software development kits and multiplayer services vital to their entire game library.

Compounding the crisis, a third group claims to have stolen sensitive user data, with intentions to extort Ubisoft. Meanwhile, a fourth group asserts that the source code breach is not new, suggesting hackers have accessed Ubisoft’s internal systems for an extended period, using the high-profile Siege hack as a distraction to leak this data.

As Ubisoft works to secure its systems, the gaming community is urged to remain vigilant. Prominent content creators and cybersecurity experts recommend that players refrain from logging into their accounts until the situation is fully resolved. Users are also advised to change their passwords and temporarily remove payment details from their accounts as a precautionary measure. Additionally, players should be cautious of phishing emails claiming to be from “Ubisoft Support” asking for sensitive information.

The situation is still developing, and the full extent of the breach remains unclear. As players await updates, the implications of this hack could reshape discussions around cybersecurity in the gaming industry. Stay tuned for more breaking news as this story unfolds.
