UPDATE: The Lowell Police Department’s 11th annual holiday toy drive has achieved a record-breaking milestone, collecting an astounding 1,500 toys this season. This remarkable effort marks the largest donation haul in the event’s history, showcasing the community’s incredible spirit and generosity.
Community members, local businesses, and organizations rallied together, contributing an impressive array of new, unwrapped gifts. Donations included everything from dolls and dinosaurs to bicycles, board games, action figures, clothing, and gift cards. These toys are set to bring joy to children and families in need, with distribution assisted by Lowell Public Schools social workers.
“This annual toy drive is a bright spot for the department each holiday season,” stated Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon in a press release. “This is our department’s opportunity to give back to the community we serve, and the generosity of our officers and community partners showed through in a big way this year. Thank you to everyone who supported us in our efforts to make the holidays a little brighter for children in Lowell.”
The success of this year’s toy drive was fueled by collaboration among numerous community partners, including the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, the Lowell Police Patrolman’s Union, and the Lowell Police Superior Officers Union. Additional support came from organizations such as PAL of Massachusetts, the Officer Sean Collier Memorial Fund, and the Lowell High School National Honor Society. The Lowell Regional Transit Authority played a significant role as well, collecting a substantial number of toys with the help of local unions and Mill City Santa.
This heartwarming initiative not only highlights the power of community solidarity but also demonstrates the impact of collective efforts in making the holiday season brighter for many. As the toy drive wraps up, the Lowell Police Department expresses deep gratitude to all who participated and contributed.
Looking ahead, the department encourages continued community engagement and support for future initiatives. With the holiday season in full swing, the emphasis on giving and togetherness remains vital for fostering a supportive environment for all residents.
