Apple’s Mac Shipments Surge 21.4% in Q2 2025 Amid Global Growth

Apple recorded a remarkable surge in Mac shipments during the second quarter of 2025, according to preliminary data from International Data Corporation (IDC). The company shipped 6.2 million Mac computers, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 21.4% from the 5.1 million units shipped in the same quarter of the previous year. This growth positioned Apple as the leader among the top five global PC vendors, despite a stagnant performance in the United States market.

The latest figures indicate that Apple’s global market share climbed from 8.0% in Q2 2024 to 9.1% in Q2 2025. However, the company remains in fourth place in total volume, trailing behind Lenovo, HP, and Dell. The overall PC market experienced a 6.5% increase year-over-year, totaling 68.4 million units shipped, marking a recovery phase following disruptions caused by the pandemic and supply chain issues.

Market Dynamics and Regional Performance

Lenovo led the PC market with 17 million shipments, achieving a growth rate of 15.2% compared to the previous year. HP followed closely with 14.1 million units, while Dell recorded 9.8 million shipments but faced a decline of 3.0% from Q2 2024. This downturn makes Dell the only major vendor to experience a decrease in shipments during this period.

IDC attributed much of Apple’s success to its strong performance outside of the United States, where shipments rose by 9% year-over-year. In contrast, the U.S. market saw no growth during the same quarter. Analysts from IDC suggest that this stagnation in the U.S. market may be linked to an accumulation of inventory and expectations of upcoming tariff hikes. Consequently, the shipments recorded in Q2 might reflect strategic efforts by Apple and its retail partners to accelerate deliveries before potential cost increases.

Apple’s impressive 21.4% increase in shipments in Q2 followed a strong performance in the first quarter of 2025, where Mac shipments rose by 14.1% year-over-year. This upward trend starkly contrasts with the slower growth reported by other major vendors this year, highlighting Apple’s ability to capture consumer interest and navigate market challenges effectively.

The data from IDC underscores the shifting dynamics within the global PC market, with Apple leveraging its international presence to fuel growth while facing challenges domestically. As the market evolves, the focus will remain on how major players adapt to changing consumer demands and geopolitical factors that affect supply chains and pricing strategies.
