Joseph Garrity Named MORPC Chief Strategy Officer, Effective Jan 1

UPDATE: Joseph Garrity has been promoted to Chief Strategy Officer of the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), effective January 1, 2026. This strategic move was announced by MORPC Executive Director William Murdock earlier today, underscoring Garrity’s pivotal role in shaping the future of Central Ohio.

Garrity, currently the Senior Director of Government Affairs and Community Relations, will now oversee a rebranded department titled External Relations. This expanded role emphasizes aligning strategy and partnerships, critical for MORPC’s mission to serve over 90 local governments and community partners.

“Joe is a key part of MORPC’s success,” Murdock stated. “His leadership will be essential in advancing our strategic direction and enhancing services for our members.” Garrity’s experience, spanning 15 years in public service, will be instrumental as he drives special leadership initiatives and supports internal operations.

In his new capacity, Garrity aims to deepen relationships with local government members and private sector partners, transforming strategic goals into actionable outcomes. “I’m honored by the trust placed in me,” Garrity remarked. “Our role as a regional convener has never been more important.”

Garrity’s career at MORPC began in 2015 as a Public Affairs Coordinator. His progressive leadership trajectory includes pivotal contributions to grant strategies and regional investments, aligning public and private partners to enhance resource competitiveness.

His commitment to the community is evident; Garrity serves on the ADAMH Board of Franklin County and is vice chair of the Columbus International Visitors Council. His accolades include being named a 40 Under 40 honoree by Columbus Business First in 2022 and participating in the 2023 Leadership Columbus Class.

Garrity holds a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University, a Master’s in Applied Politics from the University of Akron, and a Master’s in Public Administration from The Ohio State University. His educational background complements his extensive experience in enhancing community engagement and driving policy efforts.

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission continues to be a vital voice for Central Ohio, providing nonpartisan data analysis and long-range planning to foster regional prosperity and sustainability. As the organization gears up for Garrity’s leadership transition, the focus remains on delivering real value to the community.

Stay tuned for further updates on how Garrity’s leadership will impact Central Ohio’s future.
