UPDATE: The Baxter boys wrestling team delivered an impressive performance at two major tournaments, with standout athletes Kinnick Poage and Ruger Kincaid showcasing their skills against tough competition.
In a thrilling display of athleticism, the Bolts finished eighth at the Ron Dodd Viking Invitational held in Northwood on December 9. Competing against out-of-state teams, Baxter scored 48 points in the 10-team field. The tournament concluded with Dover-Eyota edging out Westfield for the title, scoring 215 and 208 points respectively.
Poage emerged as a fierce competitor, finishing second in the 113-pound weight class with a remarkable 4-1 record for the day, including four pins that each took less than 50 seconds to execute. Despite losing his first match by fall while leading 3-2, Poage’s overall season record now stands at 12-2.
Kincaid also shone brightly, securing third place in the 190-pound category. After an initial setback with a 20-9 loss, he bounced back with three consecutive pins, demonstrating his resilience and skill. His record has now improved to 8-3.
Additionally, Lincoln Russell represented the Bolts in the 120-pound weight class, finishing fifth with a 2-2 record, including two pin victories.
Just days prior, on December 12, the Bolts continued their competitive streak at the Montezuma Invitational, where Poage and Kincaid again made significant contributions. The team collectively ended with a 7-3 record, showcasing their strength against a challenging field. Bondurant-Farrar claimed the tournament crown with 305.5 points, while the Bolts secured 64 points, landing them in seventh place.
Poage finished second at 106 pounds with a 2-1 record, marking his two wins with pins that collectively lasted only 1:50. Maddox Peters also excelled, placing second at 175 pounds with two quick pin victories. Kincaid, competing at 215 pounds, was 3-1, sealing his matches with three pins, including a rapid 42-second victory in his first match.
As the wrestling season progresses, all eyes will be on these talented athletes as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
