Worcester Railers Stun Norfolk Admirals with 3-2 Victory

UPDATE: The Worcester Railers pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over the Norfolk Admirals at the DCU Center last night, defying the odds despite being outshot 27-15. This thrilling match marks a historic moment for the Railers, as it is the first time in team history they have won with 15 or fewer shots on goal.

The game was anything but predictable. Veteran goaltender Parker Gahegan delivered a stellar performance, particularly in the second period when Norfolk dominated with a 12-4 advantage in shots but failed to score. Coach Nick Tuzzolino praised Gahegan, stating, “He is somebody who makes that casual save when we are not playing well.”

In a tightly contested matchup, the Railers improved their record to 11-3-1 over their last 15 games, tying for the second-best stretch in team history. Anthony Repaci, Cole Donhauser, and Drew Callin each contributed goals, with Repaci and Callin both achieving two points in the game.

Callin, who has recently shifted his focus to offensive play after a defensive stint in the American Hockey League, expressed his excitement: “It’s definitely more fun to be on the power play, special teams and stuff like that.” He has been on a scoring spree, tallying 4 goals and 7 assists in his last eight games.

The Railers capitalized on their power play opportunities, scoring 2 out of 5 chances, including Callin’s crucial goal at 8:41 of the third period. The combination of Callin and his brother Anthony has proven effective, with both assisting on Donhauser’s power play goal at 5:42. “It’s awesome,” said Drew, reflecting on the chance to play alongside his brother.

Despite the Admirals outplaying the Railers for much of the match, they fell short. Norfolk’s goals came from Nathan Noel, who scored shorthanded in the first, and Dawson Barteaux, who netted a power play goal in the third. The Admirals initially led until Repaci’s equalizer at 10:53 of the second period set the stage for an intense final period.

As the Railers gear up for their next encounter, they face Norfolk again tonight at 6:05 PM for the highly anticipated Teddy Bear Toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw on the ice after the first Railers goal, with all donations going to Friendly House in time for Christmas.

In other news, Gleb Veremyev was recalled by Bridgeport, taking him off the Railers’ active roster, while T.J. Walsh filled his spot. The game last night drew an attendance of 2,024 fans, underscoring the growing support for the team.

The momentum from this victory could be a turning point for the Railers as they look to solidify their standing in the league. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if they can continue this successful run against Norfolk tonight.

Stay tuned for real-time updates as the Railers aim to build on their impressive performance!
