UPDATE: A Tennessee man has been charged with reckless murder following a fatal DUI crash in Montgomery that left one person dead. The incident occurred at 8:07 PM on Wednesday at the intersection of East Fairview Avenue and Norman Bridge Road.
Cameron Wilhite, a 28-year-old from Memphis, collided with two vehicles, resulting in the death of 54-year-old Frederick Bernard Hill, who succumbed to his injuries at a Montgomery hospital shortly after the crash.
Authorities report that Wilhite was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he first struck a Ford Escape before crashing into Hill’s Ford Explorer. A blood alcohol content test conducted 1.5 hours after the incident revealed a BAC of .15, nearly double the legal limit. Open containers were also discovered in his vehicle, and officers noted that Wilhite was in an “obviously impaired state.”
Wilhite was taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility on Thursday, where he remains held without bond. This tragic event underscores the severe consequences of impaired driving, raising urgent questions about road safety and accountability.
As investigations continue, residents are left grappling with the impact of this loss. Hill’s family and friends mourn the sudden tragedy, as community members call for stricter measures against DUI offenders. Officials emphasize the importance of responsible driving and the devastating effects of such reckless behavior.
