Amazon has confirmed the release date for its latest Kindle devices, the Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which will be available for purchase starting on December 10, 2023. According to Amazon spokesperson Rachel Erickson, customers can expect the devices to retail at $629.99 for the Colorsoft model and $499.99 for the standard Scribe, which includes a front light. Notably, Amazon will not offer preorders for these new models.
These updated Kindle Scribes feature larger 11-inch screens and have been designed to be lightweight at 400 grams with a slim profile of just 5.4mm, making them thinner than an iPhone Air. The screens utilize a new texture-molded glass, which aims to enhance the friction between the pen and screen, providing a more tactile experience for users.
Furthermore, the models equipped with front lighting incorporate a new system that utilizes miniaturized LEDs, improving the reading experience in various lighting conditions. The updated Scribes will also include a new pen that features stronger magnets, allowing it to attach securely to the side of the device.
While the Kindle Scribe without a front light is set to be more affordable at $429.99, it will not be available on the same release date. This model is expected to launch sometime in 2026, indicating that customers seeking a budget option will need to wait longer.
The introduction of these new Kindle models represents Amazon’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the digital reading experience. With advancements in design and technology, the Kindle Scribe and Colorsoft aim to meet the needs of a diverse range of readers, from students to professionals. As the release date approaches, anticipation builds around how these devices will perform in the competitive e-reader market.
