Broomfield Police Launch Annual Toy Drive for Local Children

The Broomfield Police Department has initiated its annual toy drive, aiming to provide gifts to children in need this Christmas. The drive relies on local contributions to ensure that every child receives a present during the festive season. According to a statement on the city’s official website, children benefiting from the program are nominated by police officers and educators from schools across Broomfield.

Community participation is essential, and residents are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys. The most sought-after items this year include puzzles, art supplies, books, and gift cards. A comprehensive list of frequently requested toys can be found on the city’s website.

History of the Toy Drive

The toy drive, known as the Christmas Crusade in some departments, has been a tradition since 1983. The Broomfield Police Department established its own version, known as “Santa Cops,” in the early 2000s. This initiative has evolved into a significant community effort over the years, highlighting the importance of supporting local families during the holiday season.

According to Rachel Haslett, the department spokesperson, the drive is not only about providing gifts but also about fostering relationships between police officers and the community. “It’s a way for us to connect with families and ensure that children can experience the joy of Christmas,” she stated.

How to Contribute

Residents wishing to contribute can drop off their donations at the Broomfield Police Department, located at 7 DesCombes Drive. The deadline for toy submissions is December 11, 2023. This initiative exemplifies how community involvement can make a significant impact on the lives of children during the holiday season.

The Broomfield Police Department’s commitment to supporting local families through this toy drive reflects a broader goal of community engagement and assistance. As the holiday season approaches, every contribution helps to bring a smile to the faces of children in need across the area.
