Celebrate the Holidays with Boulder County’s Festive Events

Boulder County is set to embrace the holiday spirit with a diverse lineup of festive performances and events in December 2025. Among the highlights is the *Extremely Wonderful New York Holiday Radio Show*, presented by the Rocky Mountain Revels at the Dairy Arts Center on December 21 and 22. This engaging production promises a warm and entertaining atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for families and visitors alike.

The *Extremely Wonderful New York Holiday Radio Show* offers a unique blend of music, dance, and storytelling, rooted in the Revels tradition that began in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1971. The local troupe, established in 2002, has continued to evolve, demonstrating resilience and creativity as it engages community members across generations. This year’s show is inspired by a fictional 1950s New York radio broadcast that takes an unexpected turn when its headlining performers fail to arrive.

Director and board member Paul Kapustka, who has been with Revels since 2021, contributed significantly to the full script after years of participating in various productions. He drew on his Polish heritage and experiences in Chicago to infuse the show with cultural references and humor. “The audience is there, the show needs to happen, and the producers have to improvise,” Kapustka explained. This spirit of community and collaboration reflects the essence of the Revels experience.

Executive Director Darren Kelly emphasized the importance of community involvement in the production. “We’re a nonprofit; we’re not here to make a profit. I want the money to go right back into professional artists’ hands,” he stated. Recent increases in grant funding have enabled the organization to compensate artists and strengthen its foundation, enhancing the overall quality of the performances.

The revelry extends beyond the stage, with a variety of holiday events scheduled throughout Boulder County. Families can visit Santa at the *St. Nick on the Bricks* event in downtown Boulder, offering a photo opportunity and festive cheer. Additionally, the *Gingerbread Tea* at St. Julien Hotel invites guests to indulge in a delightful afternoon of treats and live jazz music while supporting a local charity.

Several concerts and performances are also on the calendar. The *Boulder Concert Band* will present “A Season of Joy” on December 7, showcasing both traditional and contemporary holiday music. Meanwhile, the *Longmont Symphony Orchestra* will perform *Handel’s Messiah* on December 13, a cherished seasonal tradition that draws audiences together for a candlelight concert.

For families seeking interactive experiences, the *Jeff and Paige Holiday Concert* promises an engaging afternoon filled with music and laughter on December 12. This event has become a staple of the holiday season in Boulder County, creating lasting memories for children and parents alike.

The festive calendar also includes the *Centennial State Ballet’s* presentation of *The Nutcracker*, a beloved classic that transports audiences into a magical world. Performances will take place at the Longmont Performing Arts Center from December 19 to 21, offering an enchanting experience for attendees of all ages.

As the holiday season approaches, Boulder County’s vibrant arts community continues to provide opportunities for connection and celebration. Whether attending a performance or joining in festive activities, residents and visitors alike can find joy in the spirit of the season.

With events ranging from theatrical performances to community gatherings, Boulder County is poised to deliver a memorable holiday experience in December 2025. As noted by Kelly, “This is one of the few chances to see your friends and neighbors put on a professional show.” The local arts scene thrives on this spirit of collaboration and inclusiveness, inviting everyone to partake in the holiday festivities.
