Swalwell Urges Military to Resist Trump’s Orders Amid Controversy

URGENT UPDATE: California Rep. Eric Swalwell claims military members can act as a crucial “check” on President Donald Trump, amidst rising tensions over a controversial video featuring Democratic lawmakers. During an appearance on Don Lemon’s show on October 30, 2023, Swalwell revealed that military personnel have expressed their commitment to uphold the Constitution, even when facing potential unlawful orders from the President.

Swalwell’s comments follow the release of a video by six Democratic lawmakers, including retired Navy captain Mark Kelly, urging service members to “refuse illegal orders” from Trump. The Department of War has since announced a formal review into Kelly’s involvement in the video, escalating the controversy surrounding military conduct and political pressure.

“I talk to service members all the time,” Swalwell stated. “They tell me that while Congress is not a check on the president anymore, the military can be.” His remarks come as tensions flare between military loyalty and political directives, raising concerns about the integrity of military orders under a contentious administration.

“We’re not going to betray our oath to the Constitution because this guy tells us to,” Swalwell emphasized, highlighting the resolve of military members to refuse any unlawful commands.

The video has sparked fierce backlash, with retired General labeling it “irresponsible.” Swalwell criticized the Trump administration’s response, stating, “To me, the only reason you’d go after Mark Kelly if he’s telling soldiers, ‘You don’t have to follow an unlawful order’—and they don’t—is if you intend to carry out unlawful orders.”

Senator Ruben Gallego joined the conversation on CNN, warning that military personnel targeting Kelly would face severe consequences. “Donald Trump is going to be gone in a couple of years,” Gallego asserted. “If you’re part of the military that is going after sitting senators, there will be consequences, without a doubt.”

This developing situation reflects a growing divide between military duties and political influence, with Swalwell urging service members to remain steadfast in their commitment to the Constitution. The implications of this controversy extend beyond party lines, resonating with concerns about governance and the rule of law.

The Department of War’s investigation into Kelly underscores the seriousness of the situation, as public and political scrutiny intensifies. As this story unfolds, many are left questioning the balance of power and the responsibilities of those in uniform in the face of political pressure.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops, and share your thoughts on social media about the military’s role in upholding constitutional duties during politically charged times.
