Congressman Shomari C. Figures has announced the allocation of $1 million to improve healthcare infrastructure in Jackson, Alabama. This funding will specifically support enhancements at the Jackson Medical Center, addressing critical healthcare needs within the community.
The funding was secured as part of Congressman Figures’ appropriations request for fiscal year 2026. It will enable the City of Jackson to undertake essential infrastructure improvements and upgrade medical equipment at the facility. Congressman Figures made the announcement during a meeting with Jackson Mayor Audra Raybon, where they discussed the pressing health and economic priorities impacting their constituents.
Addressing Rural Healthcare Challenges
During the announcement, Congressman Figures emphasized the ongoing rural hospital crisis in Alabama. “Hospitals across my district are literally on financial life support, and people in Alabama are facing some of the worst health outcomes in the nation. That is why securing this funding matters,” he stated. The Congressman highlighted the significant impact this funding will have, describing it as a provision of lifesaving resources for a community in urgent need.
Mayor Raybon expressed her gratitude for Congressman Figures’ support, stating, “On behalf of the City of Jackson and the Jackson City Council, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Congressman Figures for his continued support and strong advocacy for rural healthcare.” She underscored the lasting impact of Figures’ commitment to enhancing access to healthcare resources for the community.
Planned Improvements at Jackson Medical Center
The funds provided by Congressman Figures will be utilized for multiple initiatives, including the purchase of advanced diagnostic imaging equipment, repairs, and renovations to existing hospital infrastructure. Additionally, there will be enhancements aimed at improving safety and security for both patients and staff at the hospital.
This funding request follows a series of initiatives undertaken by Congressman Figures to bolster support for rural hospitals. Notably, he introduced the bipartisan Rural Hospital Stabilization Act of 2025, which proposes a grant program designed to help financially struggling rural healthcare facilities maintain operations.
“Strengthening our hospitals and expanding access to care will remain a top priority as I continue to fight to ensure every family in the second District has the healthcare access they deserve,” Congressman Figures affirmed, reiterating his commitment to improving health outcomes for Alabamians.
The allocation of $1 million marks a significant step towards addressing the healthcare challenges faced by Jackson, Alabama, and exemplifies the ongoing efforts to enhance rural healthcare systems across the United States.
