Bethlehem Celebrates Holiday Spirit with Tree Decorating Event

The city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, welcomed the holiday season with its annual tree decorating event on November 21, 2025. Local third graders from Miller Heights and Freemansburg Elementary Schools gathered to decorate the city’s Christmas tree, creating a festive atmosphere filled with laughter and holiday cheer.

The event featured an array of activities, including ornament decorating, holiday songs, and a festive lunch. Students received assistance from local police officers, including Officer William Rodriguez, who helped young participants like Freemansburg Elementary student Eric hang their ornaments. The initiative was part of the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program of the Lehigh Valley, which aims to promote literacy and community engagement among children.

In addition to the decoration, students were treated to a performance by the Liberty High School Caroling Band. The band’s lively rendition of holiday classics added to the celebration, creating a joyful ambiance for everyone present.

Highlighting the community spirit, young attendees enjoyed lunch and snacks while participating in various holiday-themed activities. Culinary students from the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School showcased their skills by decorating festive cupcakes, further enhancing the holiday experience for the children.

As part of the day’s festivities, students also had the opportunity to select books with the help of local volunteers, such as members of the Moravian women’s basketball team. This effort not only provided enjoyment but also promoted literacy, aligning with the goals of the Cops ‘n’ Kids program.

The event was graced by the presence of Bethlehem’s Mayor J. William Reynolds, who expressed his gratitude towards the participants and organizers. As the students stood together for a picture, they were reminded of their special role in the upcoming tree lighting ceremony, where selected third graders will assist the mayor in illuminating the holiday tree next week.

Beverly A. Bradley, president of the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program, warmly welcomed the children, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in fostering a love for reading and the holiday spirit. The tree decorating event not only marked the beginning of the festive season in Bethlehem but also reinforced the values of togetherness and joy within the community.

As Bethlehem prepares for the holiday celebrations, this event serves as a reminder of the magic of the season, bringing together children, families, and local leaders in a shared celebration of joy and community spirit.
