JR Motorsports (JRM) is contemplating a move into the NASCAR Cup Series, with co-owner Kelley Earnhardt Miller indicating that the team is considering a full-time entry. This ambition comes in light of Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s announcement that JRM will participate in the prestigious Daytona 500 in 2026. However, the ongoing charter lawsuit involving NASCAR, Denny Hamlin‘s 23XI Racing, and Front Row Motorsports has led Miller to adopt a cautious approach.
The charter dispute is reshaping the financial landscape of the sport, prompting JRM to evaluate its options carefully. Miller remains optimistic yet grounded, emphasizing the need for patience during this transitional period. Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, she stated, “I think everybody’s kind of in the same boat right now, just watching to see how things play out with the lawsuit and where things head, before doing anything crazy.”
JRM’s recent foray into the Cup Series was notable, with driver Justin Allgaier achieving a top-10 finish in the Great American Race earlier this year. This performance has fueled aspirations for a more permanent presence in the top tier of stock car racing. Competing at Daytona is strategically significant, as it offers substantial exposure for sponsors and partners, enhancing JRM’s visibility in a competitive market.
Looking beyond Daytona, Miller acknowledges the uncertainty that lies ahead. “We’ll have to figure out if anything else will make sense and how this goes, and just continue to watch the landscape in the Cup Series and what the Charters are doing,” she remarked. The organization has established a strong reputation in the Xfinity Series, where it fields four full-time cars and a part-time program in collaboration with Trackhouse Racing.
While JRM thrives in the Xfinity Series, the prospect of a full-time Cup Series entry remains a primary goal. Miller recognizes the significance of such a move for the Earnhardt legacy, stating, “From a legacy standpoint & everything that we built, I think it would be really cool for us to experience.” The Earnhardt family name is synonymous with NASCAR, and a full-time entry would deepen that connection.
