Dolly Parton is currently recuperating at home following recent health challenges that have raised concerns among her fans. According to a source close to the country music icon, she is “getting better every day” and has begun preparing for the holidays, a season she cherishes. The source shared this reassurance with PEOPLE, indicating that Parton is receiving visits from friends and family as she focuses on her recovery.
The health issues that led to her taking time off include a bout with kidney stones, which caused her to miss the opening of a new experience at her theme park, Dollywood, on September 17, 2023. Following that, she postponed her scheduled shows in Las Vegas due to ongoing health concerns. These developments have prompted her to address the situation directly with her fans.
In early October, the 79-year-old singer took to social media to calm her supporters with a video message. “I want you to know that I’m OK,” she stated, emphasizing, “I ain’t dead yet!” She acknowledged that while she has faced some health problems, they are not as severe as some have speculated.
Parton candidly discussed the neglect of her health following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March. Reflecting on this period, she remarked, “I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go that I should’ve been taking care of.” She clarified that her current health issues, while requiring attention, are “nothing major.”
The singer has been receiving treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is committed to her recovery. “I had to cancel some things so I could be closer to home, closer to Vanderbilt, where I’m kind of having a few treatments here and there,” she explained. Parton reassured her fans, saying, “I’m not dying. I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working.”
Her positive outlook and determination to continue her work resonate with her fans, who have expressed their support during this challenging time. “I love you for caring, and keep praying for me,” she concluded, reinforcing the connection she has with her audience.
As Dolly Parton continues her recovery, her fans remain hopeful for her swift return to the stage and her beloved holiday celebrations.
