Gerald R. Cote, Former GE Vice President, Passes Away at 85

Gerald R. Cote, a former Vice President of the General Electric Company, passed away on November 12, 2023, at the age of 85. Cote, who was born on July 21, 1940, in Derry, New Hampshire, enjoyed a distinguished career in engineering and management, leaving behind a legacy of professional achievement and personal devotion.

Early Life and Education

Cote was the son of Rene and Germaine Cote. He graduated from Pinkerton High School before pursuing an engineering degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His academic accomplishments set the stage for a fruitful professional journey.

Upon completing his education, Cote joined the General Electric Company, where he embarked on a career that would span over three decades. His work at GE included various assignments across different sectors and locations, allowing him to develop a broad skill set and rise through the ranks.

Career Achievements

Throughout his time at GE, Cote held several significant roles, ultimately becoming a Vice President. His career included notable assignments in both Louisville, Kentucky, and Schenectady, New York, where he made substantial contributions to the company’s operations and strategic direction.

Cote’s professional journey was characterized by a commitment to excellence and leadership, traits that earned him respect among peers and subordinates alike. His ability to navigate complex business environments showcased his expertise and dedication to the field of engineering.

Personal Life and Interests

Cote married his beloved wife, Sally, in July 1963. Together, they enjoyed many years of companionship. Cote was a passionate sports enthusiast, playing three sports during high school and continuing his athletic pursuits in college football. He cherished the role of a father, particularly relishing the time spent coaching and supporting his late son, Brian, in little league and high school baseball.

Later in life, Cote discovered a love for golf, which became a significant passion. He enjoyed both competitive play and leisurely rounds with friends and family. A dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, he kept a close eye on every game, demonstrating his unwavering loyalty to his favorite teams.

Gerald Cote is survived by his sons, Andrew (Sydney) and Christopher (Julia), along with his two great-grandchildren, Sunday and Archer, who brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his wife, Sally, and his son, Brian.

In accordance with Cote’s wishes, there will be no formal services. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to The Foundation for Ellis Hospital, located at 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308. This gesture reflects Cote’s enduring commitment to the community he served and cherished throughout his life.
