Cameron Boozer Scores 35 Points, Ties Duke Freshman Record

UPDATE: Freshman sensation Cameron Boozer has made headlines with a stunning performance, scoring 35 points in just his fourth game, tying for the second-most points by a Duke freshman in history. This impressive feat occurred during the fourth-ranked Blue Devils‘ dominant 100-62 victory over Indiana State on Friday night.

Boozer’s scoring output puts him just behind Cooper Flagg, who holds the record with 42 points against Notre Dame last season. Coach Jon Scheyer praised Boozer’s competitive spirit, stating, “Just his approach… he’s such a competitor.”

The young star now shares the 35-point freshman milestone with NBA talents such as Zion Williamson and Jared McCain. His scoring was notably more impactful than renowned players Marvin Bagley III and JJ Redick, who scored 34 points in their respective freshman seasons.

Boozer shot an impressive 13 of 16 from the field, including both of his attempts from beyond the arc, although he faced challenges at the free throw line, finishing 7-for-11. Coach Scheyer remarked, “I don’t know how you could be more efficient,” highlighting Boozer’s dominance in both scoring and rebounding, as he also led the team with 12 rebounds and 5 assists.

Teammate Caleb Foster noted Boozer’s ability to attack the rim, stating, “He gets it down in the paint, he’s going to attack the rim, it’s hard to stop him.” As Boozer continues to impress, he is currently averaging 22.5 points per game heading into the highly anticipated matchup against No. 25 Kansas on Tuesday night.

With his rising profile, Boozer’s performance not only underscores his skill but also his potential impact on the Blue Devils’ season. As Coach Scheyer suggests, “I actually want him to be more aggressive with his scoring,” it’s clear that expectations are high for this budding superstar.

Fans and analysts alike will have their eyes on Boozer as he looks to further establish his legacy in the upcoming game against Kansas. This isn’t just a moment for Boozer—it’s a pivotal point in his young career that could shape the trajectory of the Duke basketball program.
