In a tragic incident, college football coach John Beam, known for his appearance in the Netflix series “Last Chance U,” has died after being shot on the campus of Laney College in Oakland, California. During a news conference held on March 15, Police Chief Floyd Mitchell announced Beam’s death, highlighting the incident as “very targeted.” Assistant Chief James Beere stated that the suspect, who was known to Beam, had a past connection but was not close to the coach. Beere noted that Beam was “open to helping everybody in our community,” indicating his commitment to supporting local youth.

His former players, including brothers Nahshon and Rejzohn Wright, who currently play in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints, expressed their grief on social media. Rejzohn Wright shared a heartfelt message stating, “You mean the world to me,” accompanied by a photo of Beam. Nahshon Wright also posted a tribute featuring a broken heart emoji alongside a picture of the coach.
