BREAKING NEWS: The Texas Rangers have just unveiled their coaching staff for the 2026 season, led by new manager Skip Schumaker. This announcement, made on Wednesday, highlights a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent with immediate implications for the team’s future.
This new lineup includes two former Rangers, Rod Barajas and Travis Jankowski, bringing a wealth of experience to the coaching staff. Barajas, a former catcher and first baseman with the Rangers from 2004-06, will serve as the quality control coach. Meanwhile, Jankowski, who played outfield for the Rangers during their 2023 World Series championship run, has been appointed as the first-base coach.
Rangers’ management has confirmed that ten members of Schumaker’s staff will be joining for the upcoming season, with an additional major league coach set to be announced later. Significant changes are in place as six coaches return from former manager Bruce Bochy‘s staff, including Jordan Tiegs, who steps up as the new pitching coach after serving as the bullpen coach last season.
Justin Viele takes on the role of lead hitting coach, transitioning from his previous position as co-hitting instructor alongside Bret Boone, who will not return following a reshuffle in the offensive department. Corey Ragsdale moves to third-base coach after six seasons as first-base coach, while Brett Hayes shifts from quality control coach to catching coach.
Returning staff members maintaining their roles include bench coach Luis Urueta and assistant pitching coach Dave Bush. Urueta previously worked alongside Schumaker in Miami from 2023-24, further solidifying their collaborative history.
The coaching staff also welcomes Alex Cintrón, who arrives after nine successful seasons with the Houston Astros, including the last seven as hitting coach. Colby Suggs, formerly Minnesota’s bullpen coach for the past three and a half seasons, rounds out the new additions.
The Rangers’ strategic moves signal a commitment to enhancing their performance as they enter a crucial season. Fans are eager to see how these changes will impact the team’s dynamics and overall success on the field.
Stay tuned as the Rangers continue to refine their coaching lineup, with more updates expected soon. The excitement in Arlington is palpable as the organization gears up for an impactful season ahead!
