Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Set for Urgent Ankle Surgery Next Week

UPDATE: Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Tommy Edman is scheduled for right ankle surgery next week, as confirmed by general manager Brandon Gomes during the MLB GM meetings in Las Vegas. This urgent procedure aims to address ongoing issues that have plagued Edman since midway through the 2024 season.

The decision comes after Edman’s persistent ankle troubles, which began while he was still with the St. Louis Cardinals. Despite the pain, Edman demonstrated remarkable resilience, contributing significantly to the Dodgers’ success after being traded in July 2024. He was a standout performer during the postseason, earning the NL Championship Series MVP title. However, his performance dipped to just .143 in the Dodgers’ thrilling seven-game victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series.

Gomes expressed confidence in the timing of Edman’s surgery and its potential benefits. “This was clearly bothering him for a while,” Gomes stated. “He’s so tough and went out there and kept just posting for us and obviously played great for us. So I think it’ll be good to get it addressed and then that way he can have this behind him and hopefully it won’t be an issue next year.”

Edman’s commitment to the team was evident, but this surgery underscores the need for recovery as he prepares for the upcoming season. He signed a lucrative $74 million contract last offseason, solidifying his role within the team. The Dodgers and their fans will be eagerly anticipating his return to full health as they look to defend their title.

As Edman prepares for surgery, the focus now shifts to his rehabilitation and readiness for spring training. The Dodgers will closely monitor his recovery to ensure he can contribute to the team’s continued success in the 2025 season. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
