Winter Coat Drives in New York: Help Those in Need This Season

As winter approaches, many individuals and families face the challenge of staying warm amid rising costs. Local coat drives across the New York Metro area provide an opportunity for residents to donate winter clothing to those in need. These initiatives aim to ensure that everyone can access proper winter outerwear during the frigid months ahead.

Major Coat Drives in Manhattan

New York Cares, located at 39 Broadway, 27th Floor, has been a cornerstone of community support since 1989. Over the past 37 years, the organization has collected and distributed more than 2.5 million winter coats to those in need. In partnership with We ❤ NYC and various city sports teams, New York Cares is actively collecting donations to help provide winter coats for vulnerable residents. A donation of $25 can support warm outerwear for ten individuals and also aids in funding programs aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty.

Another notable initiative is CTHQ, situated at 59 E 4th Street, 7th Floor. Every Tuesday and Thursday until December 19, donors can bring new or gently used coats from 11:00 to 16:00. CTHQ collaborates with community partners to ensure that every coat donated reaches someone who genuinely needs it.

Also in Manhattan, Xavier Mission at 55 West 15th Street is dedicated to providing essential services to New Yorkers. Their Clothing Room accepts donations of new and gently used coats on weekdays from 10:00 to 18:00, and on weekends from 8:00 to 18:00. To date, Xavier Mission has distributed over 60,000 pounds of clothing, assisting approximately 1,800 individuals.

Coat Drives in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn

In the Bronx, the Center for Family Support is running its 9th annual coat drive from November 3, 2025 to January 3, 2026. Donors are encouraged to bring new or gently used coats to support families and community members in need at their location on 3594 East Tremont Avenue, Suite 300.

In Queens, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs is collecting winter clothing for all ages, including infants. Donors can visit the church at 110-06 Queens Boulevard, Forest Hills on Sundays from 9:00 to 12:00. The church has a donation truck scheduled to pick up items, with the next collection set for November 16.

In Brooklyn, the St. Mary’s Clothing Drive at 230 Classon Avenue has been serving the community since 1992. They accept donations of new or gently used clothing, including coats, with drop-off hours from 9:00 to 13:00, Monday through Saturday. Their efforts ensure that families in financial distress receive the clothing they need on a daily basis.

These coat drives exemplify the spirit of community support in the New York Metro area. By donating to any of these organizations, residents can help make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling to stay warm this winter. For more details on drop-off times and locations, individuals are encouraged to check the respective websites or social media pages of each organization.
