Local Community Gears Up for Festive Events and Fundraisers

Community organizations across the Wyoming Valley are preparing for a series of events aimed at fostering connection, celebrating traditions, and raising funds for various causes. With numerous activities scheduled from November to December, residents are invited to participate in gatherings that range from holiday parties to charity fundraisers.

Upcoming Community Meetings and Celebrations

The Wyoming Valley St. David’s Society will hold a meeting at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, at Cris-Nics on Barney and Horton Streets in Wilkes-Barre. The agenda will include planning for the upcoming Christmas meeting and banquet, and both existing and new members are welcome to attend.

On November 16, the Northeast Region of the Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania will host its annual Strike Out Epilepsy Bowl-a-Thon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Chacko’s Family Bowling on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard. Participants can register as teams or individuals for a fee of $20, which includes two hours of bowling and refreshments. The Lithuanian Women’s Club of Wyoming Valley will hold its meeting and Christmas party at 12:30 p.m. on November 19, at The Cafe on Highway 315 in Plains Township. Meanwhile, the Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania will celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas at 2 p.m. on December 7 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Kingston. Attendees can enjoy songs, storytelling of past Christmas traditions, and refreshments. The event is free, although a free-will offering is accepted. Charitable Events and Fundraisers

Wilkes University will host the 14th annual Wigilia on December 7, requiring RSVPs by November 26. This event, taking place at Amber Palace, features traditional Polish foods and carols, with scholarship recipients present. The Pi Beta Gamma Club of Wyoming Valley will hold its Christmas party on December 21 at the Wyoming Valley Country Club. Guests are invited, and RSVPs should be made by December 12 to Susan at 570-357-3583.

A variety of other community events will also take place, such as the Back Mountain Craft Fair on November 8 at the Dallas American Legion, featuring a basket raffle and bake sale to benefit local veterans. The Northmoreland Volunteer Fire Company will kick off its fire company bingo at 5:30 p.m. on November 10, offering a family-friendly evening without the need for prior registration.

In addition to meetings and celebrations, local churches are also hosting dinners. Christ United Methodist Church will provide a turkey dinner on November 15, with options for both takeout and dine-in. The cost is $15, and children under ten eat free. Community members are encouraged to support local initiatives, such as the “Sip and Paint” event in Nanticoke on November 15, which requires RSVPs by November 8. This event costs $35 and offers a creative outlet for participants.
