PJP Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Set for Nov. 14, 2025

UPDATE: The Pope John Paul II High School Legacy of Impact Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025, at 7 p.m., with a reception beginning at 6 p.m.. This highly anticipated event will honor significant contributors to sports and community, creating a moment of nostalgia for many attendees.

Three standout individuals and a legendary team will be inducted: Charles McPherson, Jim Shaffer, and the 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School boys’ basketball team. Their legacies have left indelible marks on athletes and communities alike, making this ceremony a must-attend for fans of local sports history.

Jim Shaffer is celebrated for his tenure as head coach of Archbishop Kennedy High’s boys’ basketball team, where he led the squad to numerous titles, including a Bicentennial League championship. His mentoring has shaped countless young athletes, emphasizing not only skill but character. Shaffer also co-founded the AMBUCS Stars Special Olympics team in 1988, showcasing his commitment to inclusivity and community service.

The 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School boys’ basketball team will be remembered for their incredible underdog story as they clinched the Philadelphia Catholic League championship. Defeating a favored West Catholic team, they showcased resilience and teamwork, inspiring many with their unexpected victory at the Palestra. The players, alongside coach Mike Lynam, will be celebrated for their remarkable journey.

Meanwhile, Charles McPherson, affectionately known as “Mr. Mac,” will be recognized for his extensive contributions to youth sports in Norristown, PA. His legacy includes coaching at multiple levels and serving as a community leader, impacting generations of athletes and families. His dedication to integrity and selflessness is evident in the strong bonds he forged within the community.

Additional inductees include Alyssa Neilson Borzillo (Class of 2006), Rick Keeley (Class of 1971), and Douglas T. Dunn, all of whom have made significant contributions to the PJP community.
