Karl-Anthony Towns Reflects on Trade After Knicks Beat Wolves

UPDATE: In a gripping postgame revelation, Karl-Anthony Towns expressed lingering shock over his trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the New York Knicks, following the Knicks’ commanding 137-114 victory over his former team on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

“I’m still stunned. It’s weird,” Towns admitted, reflecting on his transition nearly a year ago. The All-Star big man, who spent nine seasons in Minnesota, described a bittersweet feeling as he watched the Timberwolves don their retro “fire black” jerseys—nostalgia for the Kevin Garnett era. “It’s different when you’re in the process and now you’re going against it,” he remarked.

The trade, which shocked fans and analysts alike, saw Towns join the Knicks just before the start of last season’s training camp. The Knicks targeted him as a perfect complement to Jalen Brunson, while Minnesota aimed to alleviate financial strain by parting with his significant salary.

Despite the emotional weight of the matchup, Towns showcased his skills on the court, contributing 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks in just over 31 minutes of play. His performance highlighted the Knicks’ dominance in the latter half of the game.

Later in the interview, Towns momentarily faltered, nearly calling the Timberwolves “we,” indicating the deep connection he still feels with his former team. “It’s always great when you see your brothers,” he noted, acknowledging frequent communication with former teammates, including Naz Reid and Anthony Edwards.

The Knicks and Timberwolves both reached the conference finals last season, with aspirations for further success this year. Towns emphasized the importance of the bonds he formed in Minnesota, stating, “Built something special there.” He respects their current trajectory and expects greatness from them.

In response to Towns’ powerful plays, Edwards humorously recounted, “Man, he dunked on me today,” admitting, “I didn’t jump, though.” The competitive spirit between the former teammates was palpable, underscoring the emotional stakes of the game.

As the NBA season unfolds, all eyes will be on both teams as they seek to build upon their recent successes. Stay tuned for further updates on this captivating story.
