Kansas City Offers Tax-Free FIFA World Cup Tickets Ahead of 2026

As excitement builds for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026, soccer fans in Missouri can look forward to a unique benefit: tax-free tickets. The Missouri Department of Revenue, in collaboration with the Governor’s Office, has announced an exemption from both state and local sales tax for purchasers of official World Cup tickets. This initiative, tied to Senate Bill 652, played a significant role in securing Kansas City’s position as a host city for the prestigious tournament.

Trish Vincent, the Director of Revenue, characterized the tax exemption as a rare opportunity for consumers. She stated, “It’s not often that such purchases are untaxed, but Missouri is committed to making the FIFA World Cup a success in our state.” Official ticket sales through channels like FIFA, the FIFA Marketplace, or hospitality packages will benefit from this tax exemption, enhancing the appeal for buyers.

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe emphasized the economic advantages this initiative could provide. He remarked, “We know this is a worthwhile investment that will bring significant economic benefits; not only will Missouri businesses and retailers benefit from increased sales, but we will also showcase to the world that Missouri is capable of hosting major international events.” This sentiment reflects a broader strategy aimed at boosting tourism and employment in the region.

Fans eager to purchase tickets should note that additional sales will open on December 5, 2024, following the Final Draw for the tournament. However, the Missouri Department of Revenue has issued a cautionary warning regarding unofficial ticket sellers. Potential buyers are advised to remain vigilant against the risks of fraudulent sales and speculative offers. To ensure secure transactions, it is recommended that consumers purchase tickets exclusively from the official FIFA website, avoiding third-party sites and dubious social media advertisements.

The upcoming World Cup promises to significantly impact Missouri’s economy, with expectations of increased employment and international visibility. As preparations accelerate, the state is poised to showcase its capability to host a global sporting event. With tax-free tickets available and enthusiasm growing, Kansas City is ready to welcome soccer fans from around the world, marking a pivotal moment for the region as it steps into the international spotlight.
