Carol A. Stent, a beloved figure known for her warmth and adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, David Nakahara, at the time of her passing.
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Carol was the daughter of John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis. She graduated from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation in the Class of 1957, where she formed lasting friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who played a significant role in her early education.
A Journey of Adventure and Love
Driven by a sense of adventure, Carol moved to San Francisco, California, alongside four classmates, where they all built successful careers and found love. Carol’s striking beauty and zest for life captured the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England, while he was working at the Los Angeles County U.S.C. Hospital. After Raymond completed his residency at U.C.L.A. and earned his board certification in neurology, the couple married at the Wayfarers Chapel.
Following their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found love again with David Nakahara, a lawyer practicing in Torrance, California. They married on May 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada, embarking on a life filled with affection and companionship.
In 1998, Carol and David relocated to Las Vegas, where they shared their lives with seventeen beloved pets, reflecting her deep love for animals and all living things. Carol’s passion extended beyond her personal life; she played a vital role in caring for David’s elderly parents during their final years, providing support and guidance while also navigating her own recovery from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
A Legacy of Love and Resilience
Carol’s legacy is marked by her indomitable spirit, characterized by her wit, determination, and love for others. She inspired those around her with her ability to find joy in life’s challenges, illuminating every room she entered.
She is survived by her husband, David, along with her sisters: Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Carol’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of community.
