SNL’s Domingo Returns with Pop Culture Comedy Amid Politics

URGENT UPDATE: “Saturday Night Live” delivered a star-studded episode on October 14, 2023, as pop culture took center stage with the return of romantic party crasher Domingo. Hosted by Sabrina Carpenter, who also performed hits from her latest album “Man’s Best Friend,” the episode was marked by comedic skits that overshadowed political commentary.

The show’s start was briefly delayed due to college football, but once it began, audiences were treated to a comedic reunion of characters. Domingo, played by Marcello Hernández, made a memorable return, creating chaos for Chloe Fineman‘s character, Kelsey, who was trying to celebrate her husband Matt’s 30th birthday. The hilarity ensued as Kelsey and her friends, humorously dubbed the “Kelsquad,” sang praises of their recent Nashville trip, leading to Domingo’s entrance.

“Domingo!” they chanted as he crooned about their wild night, humorously referencing the noise complaint it triggered. “Kelsey, I’m serious, this is strike six!” warned a frustrated Matt, played by Andrew Dismukes, highlighting the show’s blend of lighthearted romance and chaos.

While politics took a backseat, James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of former President Donald Trump provided a satirical jab at current events. Trump appeared on a mock podcast hosted by a group of pre-teens, discussing everything from “GOATed” vegetables to Halloween treats. In a particularly humorous exchange, Johnson’s Trump stated, “I’ve never been one for the veggies,” before pivoting to a discussion about snacks, saying, “Ding Dongs. I like a Ding Dong.”

In an unexpected twist, Trump used the platform to allude to the recent commutation of former U.S. Representative George Santos, who had served a short sentence for multiple fraud charges. “The people are marching because they’re happy he’s free, right?” Johnson’s Trump quipped, adding, “It’s a ‘Yes, King’ march” in reference to the ongoing nationwide No Kings protests.

As the episode unfolded, the comedic blend of pop culture and political satire kept audiences engaged, proving that even amidst serious topics, humor remains a unifying force. The show highlighted the impact of current political events while delivering laughter, making it a must-watch for fans.

“SNL” airs on NBC, a division of NBCUniversal, which is also the parent company of NBC News. The timely episode not only entertained viewers but also sparked discussions around the intersection of comedy and politics, keeping its finger on the pulse of what matters to audiences today.

Stay tuned for updates on next week’s episode, as “SNL” continues to navigate the ever-changing landscape of pop culture and politics.
