Graduation ceremonies recently celebrated the accomplishments of students from various institutions across the United States, highlighting their dedication and hard work. Notably, McNeese State University awarded degrees to 624 graduates during its 164th commencement on May 9, 2025, at the university’s Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Among those honored was Kaile Elizabeth Leilani Kukaua from Valencia, who earned a bachelor of science degree in biological science.
Degrees Conferred Across Diverse Backgrounds
This spring class represented a diverse group of students, hailing from 38 parishes, 17 states, and 14 countries. A total of 650 degrees were conferred, which included 35 associate degrees, 536 bachelor’s degrees, 78 master’s degrees, and one doctoral degree. The variety of programs reflects the university’s commitment to serving a broad spectrum of academic interests.
In another ceremony, Kyle Gordon from Castaic received his bachelor of arts degree from Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts, following the conclusion of the spring 2025 semester. He was among 279 graduates honored at the December commencement. Additionally, Gordon earned a spot on the College of Our Lady of the Elms’ dean’s list, which recognizes academic excellence among over 450 students.
Local Students Achieve Dean’s List Recognition
The academic achievements continued with recognition from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where more than 6,700 students were named to the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2024-25 academic year. Among them were two local students: Kendall Rae Lescher, a senior majoring in forensic science in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and Grace Catherine Gilroy, a junior studying English and dance in the College of Arts and Sciences and Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
Qualification for the dean’s list varies among the university’s eight undergraduate colleges and the Explore Center. Notably, students can achieve this recognition across multiple colleges, showcasing their academic versatility.
