Jaylen Brown Exits Celtics Preseason Game with Hamstring Concern

Jaylen Brown exited the Boston Celtics’ preseason finale early due to left hamstring tightness, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming NBA season. The All-Star swingman left the game on October 18, 2023, during the first quarter against the Toronto Raptors at TD Garden and is now a focal point for the team as they prepare for their season opener.

Brown started the game strongly, scoring seven points and grabbing two rebounds within just seven minutes of play. However, he experienced discomfort after making a pass in transition, prompting him to signal for assistance. Following that play, he was substituted and immediately went to the locker room with team trainers, where he remained for the rest of the night.

Updates on Brown’s Condition

After the game, Joe Mazzulla, head coach of the Celtics, provided a brief update on Brown’s status, indicating that the player believes he will be fine. “I think he’ll be OK,” Mazzulla told reporters. “I just talked to him after, he said he’ll be fine. But I didn’t get a full update.” While this news is encouraging, the timeline remains tight with opening night approaching.

The Celtics are set to face the Philadelphia 76ers on October 22, 2023, making the recovery process critical for Brown. The 28-year-old forward was expected to take on a leading role, particularly with Jayson Tatum still recovering from Achilles surgery.

Brown’s Preseason Performance

This hamstring issue arises shortly after Brown’s impressive preseason performances. He led the Celtics with 21 points in their opener against the Memphis Grizzlies and contributed eight points, six assists, and five rebounds in a subsequent victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. His consistent scoring and playmaking ability have been vital for the team as they prepare for the new season.

In the previous season, Brown averaged 22.2 points per game on 46.3% shooting, alongside 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 63 regular-season games. He maintained a similar scoring average of 22.1 points and 7.0 rebounds during the playoffs. Should he be unable to play in the season opener, Mazzulla may consider other players, such as Chris Boucher or Josh Minnott, to step into the starting lineup.

As the Celtics gear up for their season debut, the health of Jaylen Brown will be closely monitored, with updates expected in the days leading up to the game. The team’s depth and adaptability will be put to the test as they navigate this potential setback.
