NBA Takes Control of NBA TV, Launches New Streaming App

UPDATE: The NBA has just announced a groundbreaking shift in its broadcasting strategy, reclaiming full operational control of NBA TV and the NBA App for the first time since 2008. This new direction marks a significant departure from previous partnerships, as the league prepares to launch a revamped streaming experience for fans starting in the upcoming 2025-2026 season.

Beginning on October 25, fans can catch a thrilling lineup of 60 exclusive regular season games, starting with the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder facing off against the Atlanta Hawks. This development is crucial as it empowers the NBA to deliver its content directly to fans, enhancing accessibility and engagement.

The new NBA App will serve as a comprehensive platform for live games, original programming, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content. “NBA TV and the NBA App are designed to be a connected, global hub for basketball coverage,” stated Sara Zuckert, NBA senior VP and head of the NBA App. “The platform will provide a seamless, always-on digital experience for fans to access 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

In addition to regular season games, the NBA will also feature broadcasts from the WNBA and the NBA’s G League, ensuring that fans have an extensive array of basketball action at their fingertips. The revamped programming slate will introduce a new flagship show titled The Association. Hosted by notable figures such as MJ Acosta-Ruiz, David Fizdale, Rudy Gay, Chris Haynes, and John Wall, this show effectively replaces the previous NBA Gametime Live segment produced by TNT Sports.

Moreover, NBA TV plans to expand its international reach by airing games from leagues around the world, including Australia’s National Basketball League, France’s Ligue Nationale de Basket, and Spain’s Liga ACB. This global focus reflects the NBA’s commitment to connecting with basketball fans worldwide and enhancing their viewing experience.

The channel and app will also introduce a variety of basketball podcasts, including popular titles like The Athletic’s NBA Daily and Thinking Basketball, alongside creative content from social media stars. Fans can look forward to docuseries such as Real Training Camp and Loud City: The OKC Thunder’s Championship Season, enriching the overall basketball narrative.

As the NBA prepares for this significant transition, the league is poised to redefine how fans interact with basketball, creating a more personal and engaging viewing experience. This move not only strengthens the NBA’s brand but also enhances its relationship with its global fanbase.

Stay tuned for further updates as the NBA gears up for this exciting new chapter in basketball broadcasting. Fans won’t want to miss out on the developments leading to the October 25 kickoff!
