Emma Elizabeth Nevin, affectionately known as Betty, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on October 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. Her departure marks the end of an era for those who knew her, a sentiment echoed by the many lives she touched throughout her long and fulfilling life.
Born in Nanticoke, Betty was the daughter of the late William Kresge and Erma (Keiner) Kresge Richards. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Raymond Clyde Nevin, who passed away in 1982. Together, they built a family that Betty cherished deeply.
A Life Dedicated to Community
Betty was a dedicated member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, where she actively participated in various ministries, forming lasting friendships along the way. Her commitment to community service extended beyond her church involvement; she was a devoted 65-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, particularly with Wyoming Chapter #1. Here, she held several significant roles, including Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron.
Professionally, Betty worked for many years at Eberhard Faber, where her contributions were valued by colleagues. After retiring, she devoted her time to volunteering at the Veterans Administration Hospital and Allied Services, demonstrating her commitment to serving others even in her later years.
Legacy of Love and Craftsmanship
Alongside her community service, Betty was known for her talents as a seamstress and crafter. These skills not only provided joy to her but also touched the lives of many, as she shared her creations with family and friends.
Betty leaves behind her three beloved children: William, Elizabeth (James), and Raymond (Cheryl). She is also survived by her cherished granddaughter, Sarah, who brought immense joy to her life. The family plans to hold services at their convenience, ensuring that they can honor her memory surrounded by those who loved her best.
