Community Remembers Arlene M. Krueger, 94, of Rochester

Arlene Mabel Krueger, a lifelong resident of Rochester, passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on January 9, 1931, in Shell Rock, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Mabel (Wagner) Jans. Arlene’s early years were spent on her family farm, where she attended local country schools before continuing her education at high schools in Readlyn and Denver, Iowa, ultimately graduating in 1948.

Arlene was not only a dedicated student but also an active participant in school life. She played on the women’s basketball team and served as a cheerleader during her time in high school. Her community involvement extended beyond academics; she was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on July 3, 1949, where she would later marry her husband, Donald A. Krueger, on May 19, 1950.

Throughout her career, Arlene held various positions, showcasing her versatility and commitment to service. She began her professional journey at Lutheran Mutual Insurance Company in Waverly, Iowa, and later worked at Kress Stores in Hutchinson, Kansas. Arlene eventually became a school aide at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa, before concluding her career at Norwest Mortgage in Rochester, Minnesota.

Arlene was a pillar of the community, actively engaging with the Redeemer Lutheran Church. She participated in numerous church groups, including the ladies’ Sarah Circle and the Shalom Christ Care group. Her dedication extended to the Funeral Committee, where she assisted with planning and logistics. Arlene also cherished her involvement in Bible studies and was an enthusiastic member of the church quilting group, where her quilting talents earned her several county and regional awards.

Family was central to Arlene’s life. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Hanley and Lisa (Ford) Erickson, along with four grandchildren: Matthew Hanley (Kate), Allison Heil (Christopher), Kai Erickson, and Cody Erickson. She also leaves behind her sister, Velda Myers, and three great-grandchildren: Miles Hanley, Avery Heil, and Sean Heil. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her son-in-law, Michael Hanley, her parents, and several extended family members.

A memorial service honoring Arlene’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 15, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Attendees are invited to a light luncheon following the service. For those unable to attend in person, the memorial service will also be available via livestream on the church’s website: https://www.redeemer-rochester.com/church-online/.

Arlene’s interment will be a private family gathering at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Denver, Iowa, arranged for a later date. Online condolences can be shared at www.mackenfuneralhome.com, allowing friends and family to express their sympathy during this difficult time. The community remembers Arlene not only for her contributions but also for her warmth and love towards those around her.
