In a commanding display of skill, Gianna Hansen scored five goals, leading Proctor to a decisive 6-0 victory over Lakes International Language Academy in the Section 7A playoffs on March 3, 2024. This win secures Proctor’s place in the semifinals, where they will face the winner of the match between Legacy Christian Academy and Duluth Marshall.
Hansen opened the scoring in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a pass from Cassidy Bakk. Just six minutes later, she assisted Madison Corder to extend the lead to 2-0. Hansen continued to dominate the field, adding two more goals before halftime and finishing her performance with goals in the 45th and 49th minutes of the second half. Remarkably, Hansen was involved in every goal scored by Proctor that evening.
In addition to Hansen’s stellar performance, Peyton Walters contributed significantly to the win, making nine saves to help secure the clean sheet for Proctor.
Esko’s Dominance in Quarterfinals
In another quarterfinal matchup, Esko showcased their strength with a commanding 7-0 win against PACT Charter. Entering the postseason with a record of 10-2-1, Esko’s performance was highlighted by freshman Addie Parrott, who scored three goals, setting the tone early in the match.
Teammates Eilee Straub and Brielle Stewart each contributed with two goals, while Sophia Naud added another to round out the scoring. Esko’s next challenge will be against the winner of the match between Two Harbors and Spectrum, scheduled for March 6, 2024, at 18:00.
Esko, currently ranked third, is aiming for their fourth consecutive section title and a spot in the state tournament despite a challenging end to their regular season, which saw them lose two of their last three matches.
Girls Volleyball Highlights
In girls volleyball, Solon Springs triumphed over Lac Courte Oreilles in a straight-set victory (25-9, 25-11, 25-17). Addison McCuskey led the team with 13 assists, while Audrey Swanson notched seven kills. Kendall Nelson and Halle Johnson contributed with four and five kills, respectively, highlighting a strong team performance.
In a nail-biting five-set match, Greenway edged out Rock Ridge (20-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-11, 15-12) thanks to an impressive showing from Ava Johnson and Ari Johnson, both delivering 19 kills and significant defensive efforts. Destiny Serfling orchestrated the offense with 48 assists and contributed 15 digs.
Meanwhile, Cloquet swept Duluth Marshall 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-14) in another strong team effort. Ava Maslowski and Ava Anderson led the scoring, while Ella Anderson and Emma Warnygora facilitated smooth ball distribution with their assists.
As the playoffs progress, Proctor, Esko, and other teams continue to showcase their talent and determination, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the season.
