Attorney Confirms Kyren Lacy Not Responsible for Fatal Crash

UPDATE: An attorney representing the late Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver, has released critical information regarding a fatal crash on December 17, 2024, in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Attorney Matt Ory stated that Lacy’s vehicle was not involved in the accident, countering allegations that he caused the tragic incident.

Ory revealed evidence from surveillance video, claiming Lacy’s car was positioned 92.3 yards behind the vehicles involved at the moment of impact. “He’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact. Key word: behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted,” Ory emphasized during an interview with HTV10.

The incident resulted in the death of Herman Hall, 78, who was struck head-on after Lacy allegedly crossed a center line while attempting to pass slower cars. According to police reports, this maneuver forced a pickup truck driver to brake and swerve, leading to a subsequent collision with Hall’s vehicle.

The surveillance footage shows an SUV colliding with another vehicle, with Lacy’s car appearing nearly four seconds later, stopping to navigate around the wreckage. Following the incident, Lacy, then 24, faced charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle. He surrendered to police in mid-January.

Tragically, on April 12, 2024, just two days before his grand jury appearance, Lacy led authorities on a pursuit in Spring, Texas. When deputies apprehended him, they discovered he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Lacy was a promising athlete, having caught 58 passes for 866 yards and sharing the Southeastern Conference lead with nine touchdown receptions in 2024. His collegiate career stats include 162 catches for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns over 64 games with Louisiana and LSU. Despite his potential NFL prospects, Lacy’s name was notably absent from the NFL Scouting Combine list released in February 2024.

This development raises urgent questions about the narrative surrounding the accident and Lacy’s tragic death. As the legal proceedings unfold, the implications for those involved—and the memory of Kyren Lacy—remain a focal point for both fans and the community.

Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
