Veteran John William Burgess Passes Away at 82, Honored for Service

John William Burgess, a distinguished veteran and beloved community member, passed away on September 7, 2024, at the age of 82 in Hermantown, Minnesota. His life was marked by dedication and service, notably during the Vietnam War, where he served with honor in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. For his bravery, Burgess received the Purple Heart, a testament to his sacrifices made for his country.

Born on June 25, 1942, Burgess was the son of John Burgess and Irene Burgess. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert and David Burgess. Throughout his life, he was known for his kindness, resilience, and commitment to his family and friends.

Final Farewell Scheduled for October 2025

To honor his contributions and life, a graveside service will be held on October 6, 2025, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Saginaw, Minnesota. This ceremony will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and fellow veterans to pay their respects and celebrate his legacy.
