Global Experts Gather for 33rd ISHRS World Congress in Berlin

International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) will host its 33rd World Congress from October 23 to 25, 2025, in Berlin, Germany. This prestigious event will showcase innovative surgical and non-surgical therapies aimed at addressing various forms of hair loss. A sold-out live surgery workshop is scheduled for October 26, further highlighting the growing interest in this field.

The congress will bring together over 800 physicians and surgical assistants from around the globe, focusing on advanced education in hair restoration. Recent data from the ISHRS indicates a significant increase in demand for hair loss treatments, with the average number of patients per member rising by 20% since 2021. Notably, 95% of first-time hair restoration surgery patients in 2024 were aged between 20 and 35, reflecting a younger demographic seeking solutions.

Innovative Learning Formats and Key Topics

This year’s congress will introduce a new format called Masterclasses, replacing traditional sessions. These Masterclasses will allow for in-depth exploration of specific topics, combining videos, slides, and interactive elements to enhance learning. Dr. Sam Lam, Program Chair, remarked, “The sheer number of abstract submissions we received for this meeting has shattered records, contributing to an unmatched scientific program.”

One of the congress’s highlights will be the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for real-time translation in over 60 languages. This initiative, introduced by ISHRS President Dr. Ricardo Mejia, aims to ensure inclusivity for international participants. “As an international society, it is important for us to be all-inclusive with the various languages from our members so they can have the same learning experience,” Dr. Mejia stated.

The program will feature prominent keynote speakers, including:

– Dr. Leslie Castelo-Soccio, USA: “Microbiome in Hair Restoration”
– Dr. David Saceda, Spain: “Management of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia”
– Dr. Ulrike Blume-Peytavi, Germany: “Updates on Topical Finasteride”
– Dr. Angela Hermosa, Spain: “Scalp Mesotherapy in Hair Restoration”
– Dr. Stefanie Heilmann-Heimbach, Germany: “Inheritance Pattern of Androgenetic Alopecia”

Topics of interest at the congress include the role of stem cells in hair follicle growth, the use of sublingual minoxidil, and innovations in managing androgenetic alopecia.

Commitment to Education and Patient Outcomes

With demand for hair loss treatments at an all-time high, the ISHRS is committed to providing top-tier educational offerings. Dr. Mejia emphasized the importance of staying abreast of cutting-edge advances in hair restoration, stating, “What matters most to our members is how keeping up with these advancements translates into enhanced outcomes for our patients.”

The ISHRS, founded in 1993, is a global non-profit medical association with over 1,200 members in 80 countries. The organization promotes excellence in patient care, medical ethics, and ongoing education in hair restoration.
