UPDATE: The Washington Wizards have just unveiled their striking new City Edition uniforms, set to debut on November 16, 2025, against the Brooklyn Nets. This fresh look pays homage to the franchise’s beloved gold alternate uniforms worn from 2006 to 2009, combining nostalgia with modern design elements.
The new jerseys feature a unique black stripe running down the center, accompanied by a white stripe above “Washington” across the chest. These details link back to the Wizards’ 2021 “mixtape” City Edition look, marking a thoughtful blend of past and present. With the demand for this design coming from both fans and players since the City Edition series began in 2017, the anticipation is palpable.
Rebecca Winn, the Wizards’ senior vice president of marketing, expressed excitement about the design process. “When Nike directed us to ‘remix’ a former City Edition, we immediately thought of the classic Wizards uniform first worn in 2006,” she stated in a recent news release.
The new uniforms showcase a silhouette of the Washington Monument within the “Washington” lettering, further enhancing the local connection. Notably, the revamped Wizards logo is prominently displayed on the belt buckle, while a white D.C. hand logo with a gold outline graces the right side. Adding a regional touch, a “DMV” insignia, representing the D.C., Maryland, Virginia area, appears on the left side of the shorts—a first for any D.C. area sports team’s uniform.
This vibrant black-and-gold ensemble will be worn by the Wizards for a total of 29 games during the upcoming 2025-26 season. Fans can also look forward to a matching City Edition court being revealed at a later date, amplifying the excitement surrounding the team’s new look.
As the Wizards prepare to debut these uniforms, the buzz continues to build among fans and the basketball community. This update not only marks a significant moment in the Wizards’ history but also showcases the franchise’s commitment to honoring its roots while embracing a fresh, modern identity.
