Every September, the town of Honoka‘a transforms into a lively hub of celebration for the United Nations International Day of Peace. This year, the Peace Day Parade and Festival will take place on September 23, 2023, starting at 11:00 AM. The events aim to promote peace and unity through various performances and cultural expressions.
The parade will showcase a variety of participants, including musicians, drummers, dancers, and local artists. “This year, we really want to be much more inclusive with the concept of peace,” said Miles Okumura, chair of the Peace Committee. Okumura emphasized the importance of simplicity in the celebration, stating, “Everyone has more in common compared to what separates and divides us when it comes to expressing and celebrating peace.”
