The Michigan State Police (MSP) is set to host a unique hiring event called Employment Day on Saturday, from 08:00 to 16:00, at Mumford High School in Detroit. This event offers aspiring troopers a comprehensive opportunity to begin their law enforcement careers by participating in a fitness test, a written examination, and interviews—all in a single day.

According to Col. James Grady, Director of the Michigan State Police, the department is actively seeking to expand its ranks, indicating a significant need for more troopers. “I’m glad to say we’ve got approximately 400 people registered. As of today, we’ve actually had to shut the registration down,” Grady stated. This impressive turnout reflects the public’s interest in joining the force.
Employment Day is designed to streamline the recruitment process, allowing candidates to tackle multiple essential steps at once. Grady emphasized the rigorous nature of the training recruits will undergo, stating, “If I’ve made it through, you can make it through. And understand that it is a very challenging academy.” He noted that the academy runs from Sunday through Friday evenings, providing recruits with limited downtime on weekends.

Grady highlighted that recruits receive paid training and all necessary resources during their time at the academy. “We make sure we provide everything for you that you need. In addition to that, it’s top-notch training. It’s some of the best that you can get in this country,” he added.
