BREAKING: The Schley County Wildcats (SCHS) delivered a stunning performance on Homecoming Night, decisively defeating the Chattahoochee County Panthers (CHATTCO) with a score of 28-0. The game, held at Schley County High School on September 29, 2023, showcased the Wildcats’ resilience and strategic prowess.
In a game marked by key mistakes from the Panthers, the Wildcats capitalized early. Just minutes into the first quarter, SCHS took advantage of a botched snap on a CHATTCO punt. Wildcats’ Jonathan Leggett Jr. intercepted the blocked punt and sprinted 45 yards for a touchdown, putting SCHS ahead 7-0 with 10:44 left in the period.
Head Coach Darren Alford praised his team’s physicality and growth. “Our kids just played hard all night long. We’re learning how to play football, and tonight we saw how much we’ve grown since the beginning of the year,” he said. The Wildcats demonstrated toughness against their opponents, which Alford emphasized as a core principle of their program.
The Wildcats continued to dominate, extending their lead to 14-0 before halftime when running back Amir Nelson scored a rushing touchdown from the 11-yard line, with Parth Patel successfully converting the extra point.
During halftime, the excitement peaked as the 2025 Schley County Homecoming Court was introduced, with senior A’zaria Battle crowned Homecoming Queen. The energy in the stadium was palpable, fueling the Wildcats for a strong second half.
Early in the third quarter, the Wildcats maintained their momentum with effective running plays from Jeremiah Johnson and Jayden Figueroa. Johnson scored another touchdown, bringing the score to 21-0 with 8:32 remaining in the quarter.
The Wildcats’ defense shone brightly, forcing a fumble recovered by Gabe Renfroe. Seizing the opportunity, Antavian Hill added to the score with another rushing touchdown, finalizing the game at 28-0.
This victory propels the Wildcats to a record of 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Class A Division 2 Region 6, while the Panthers drop to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in region play.
