FAYETTEVILLE — Transfer O’Mega Blake has emerged as a key player for the Arkansas Razorbacks since joining from Charlotte. In just two games this season, Blake has recorded 12 receptions for 185 yards and two touchdowns, contributing significantly to the Hogs’ impressive offensive performance. As Arkansas gears up to face Ole Miss on Saturday, September 16, 2023, for their Southeastern Conference (SEC) opener, Blake shared his insights into the upcoming matchup.
Blake praised Ole Miss’ defense, stating, “A great group that plays hard. They do a lot of things schematically very well.” He highlighted the defensive backs’ physicality and the defensive line’s speed, noting, “They’re big and fast and can make a lot of plays. That’s going to be key for us.”
In the recent victory over Arkansas State, Blake was impressed by left tackle Corey Robinson II, who executed a remarkable block during a touchdown run. “Oh man, it reminded me of ‘The Blind Side’,” Blake remarked. “He works his tail off every day, so it’s not surprising to me. Just seeing that and him showing that athletic ability to make that block in space on the DB, it’s amazing.”
The Razorbacks have demonstrated offensive prowess, scoring 52 and 56 points in their first two games. Blake emphasized the importance of practice, stating, “As receivers, as soon as we catch it, we tuck it, finish, burst, go score.” He credited the offensive line for their role in creating opportunities and stressed the need for full-speed execution during practice.
Reflecting on his performance, Blake added, “It ain’t surprising to me. I put the work in, day in and day out. It’s just hitting the light on Saturdays.” Despite previously playing at South Carolina, Blake has never faced Ole Miss but is keenly aware of the challenges their secondary presents. “All those guys are good, very physical,” he said. “I know there’s areas I gotta step my game up just because we’re going into SEC play.”
Blake also discussed his goals for the season, focusing on consistency and execution. “Just showing up to practice and practicing hard, man. It’ll show on Saturday if you do those things throughout the week,” he explained.
A significant aspect of Blake’s success has been his chemistry with quarterback Taylen Green. “Just putting in the extra work with Taylen and meeting with him, watching extra film, staying after practice, running extra routes,” Blake noted. He acknowledged the offensive line’s efforts, stating, “They’re playing their tails off,” allowing Green the time to make critical decisions.
Blake expressed concern for his teammate, wide receiver Monte Harrison, who suffered a broken foot against Arkansas State and may miss the remainder of the season. “Monte’s good with handling adversity. He’s been through it already, and it’s just a setback,” Blake said. “He’ll be back stronger than he left. It’s time for Courtney Crutchfield to come along.”
As Arkansas prepares for the match against Ole Miss, the kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, and the game will be televised on ESPN. The Razorbacks aim to maintain their momentum in what promises to be an exciting SEC clash.
