UPDATE: Three men have been charged in a significant drug and firearms operation in Abington Township, following an urgent investigation by local authorities. Police Chief Patrick Molloy confirmed that the Abington Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit uncovered illegal sales tied to social media activity.
In March 2024, detectives received tips regarding an Instagram account allegedly used for drug distribution in the township. The investigation quickly zeroed in on 22-year-old Jaan Qadeer Bacon from Willow Grove, who was found to be at the center of these illicit activities.
The probe revealed shocking details: Bacon was not only dealing drugs but was also involved in the transfer of illegal firearms. He aided 28-year-old Nelson David Vasquez Jr. from Philadelphia in selling a handgun unlawfully. Furthermore, Bacon engaged in a dangerous firearm swap with 23-year-old Xavier Smith of Dresher, trading a ghost gun—an untraceable firearm— for a modified handgun.
As of now, arrest warrants have been issued for all three men. On August 13, 2025, Bacon surrendered to the Abington Township Police Department and was immediately processed and arraigned on the charges. Notably, Smith was already in custody for a separate offense when additional charges for this incident were filed.
Vasquez, however, remains at large. Abington Police are actively seeking assistance from the public to locate him. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact Detective Dan Bullock at 267-536-1107 or via email at [email protected]. This alarming case underscores the ongoing battle against drug and gun violence in the community. The Abington Police Department is committed to keeping residents safe and is working diligently to dismantle such operations. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
