UPDATE: The first-ever Oklahoma Air Fest kicks off this weekend, from September 5-7, at the Canadian County Expo in El Reno. This exciting event promises thrilling aerial stunts, live entertainment, and a host of family-friendly activities, with organizers expecting 10,000 attendees each day.
This inaugural festival is a labor of love for founder Carri Lawrence, who aims to showcase the beauty of paramotor flying and other adventure sports in Oklahoma. “We’re thrilled to bring something this unique to our state,” Lawrence stated. “The people of Oklahoma are really excited because we’ve never seen this either.”
The Oklahoma Air Fest marks a significant milestone, as Governor Kevin Stitt has officially proclaimed it Oklahoma Air Fest Week. Attendees can look forward to aerial displays featuring world-class pilots, including Ramón Morillas, a four-time world champion in paramotor flight, and other internationally renowned athletes.
Beyond the high-flying acrobatics, festival-goers can enjoy a wide array of activities. These include video gaming tournaments, BMX and skateboarding exhibitions, food trucks, and a Dog Show Extravaganza. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, hot air balloons will grace the Oklahoma skyline throughout the weekend, offering breathtaking views.
Tickets are priced affordably, starting at $40 for a single-day pass, with a VIP Day Pass available for $150. Lawrence is optimistic that daily attendance will reach or exceed 10,000, making this a notable event for the state’s festival calendar.
The Air Fest is not just a one-time affair. Lawrence has already secured the venue for next year, with plans to make it an annual celebration. “Next year marks the 100-year anniversary of Route 66,” she added. “We’re looking into collaborating with existing air shows to make it a grand event.”
As the festival gears up, the excitement is palpable. With aerial stunts, live music, and community participation, the Oklahoma Air Fest is set to become a highlight in the local events calendar, attracting visitors from all over.
